Overhauling Legacy Privileged Identity Management

Ambition

Kopenhagen Konsulting was hired by a global pharmaceutical company to upgrade their outdated Privileged Identity Management (PIM) solution. The old infrastructure wasn't suitable for the company's digital growth, and managing multiple independent PIM platforms was costly and posed security risks. Our goal was to create a centralized, cost-effective PIM platform that covers all network domains and enhances security through privileged access management.

Solution

We led the entire consolidation and implementation process for the new PIM solution, working closely with internal stakeholders and the technology service provider. The project unfolded in five phases: planning and design, vendor negotiation and user analysis, onboarding and data migration, implementation, and hypercare and user support. Key tasks included a user review for licensing, data migration, revamped request and approval flows, and integration with the Identity and Access Management (IAM) platform to ensure smooth operations.

Outcome

Kopenhagen Konsulting successfully consolidated and upgraded the PIM infrastructure, creating a unified platform for all network domains. The new solution was cost-effective, secure, and scalable, eliminating over 1,000 privileged accounts. This success paved the way for future expansions to include cloud environments and other elements. The project's impact on security and operations was significant and closely monitored by C-level management.
