Driving Operational Cyber Resilience Across Energy Assets

Ambition

We set out to bolster our client's Operations Technology (OT) and cyber security stance, ensuring their energy platforms could meet growing regulatory demands while staying true to their commitment to reliable service. Our task was to craft a business case for enhancing cyber security capabilities, visibility, and response across their global OT environment.

Solution

Partnering with in-house cyber security and OT pros, we spearheaded the creation of a scalable cyber defense platform. This platform seamlessly integrated into existing energy assets, fitting right into the engineering, procurement, and construction workflows. Designed within the Purdue model, it bundled security measures like Identity & Access Management, Patch and Vulnerability Management, Backup and Restore, and 24/7 threat monitoring. By mixing best-in-class and open-source technologies, we balanced cost and efficiency perfectly. The project unfolded over several years, starting with a lighthouse asset as a proof of concept and included a detailed plan covering benefits, team roles, cost estimates, risk analysis, and more.

Outcome

Our efforts paid off, earning strong backing from top executives and management. The new platform brought substantial benefits, including:

  • Cyber resilience became a key value for the company’s energy assets.
  • Regulatory and reputational risks were significantly reduced.
  • A scalable and cost-effective solution was ready to roll out globally.
